Saint Francis Xavier Senior National School recently entered the Avivia Health FAI primary school 5 a side. This blitz competition took place on Tuesday the 16th of April in Irishtown stadium.

The eight girls representing the school were Rachel Brennan, Eimear Griffin, Amy Leggett, Hannah O Brien, Aoife Douglas, Sophie Browne, Allanah Gavin (Captain) and Clara Deshoulier. They were coached by Ms. Meehan and Ms Carmel Geraghty. The girls won their group outright-winning their first four matches. They then moved onto the quarter finals and triumphed there with a great show from Rachel Brennan. The semi-final certainly brought some drama, ending up in sudden death penalties with Aoife Douglas finding the back of the net to clench victory. We went onto to win the final 1-0 with a fantastic goal from Alannah.

This is the first ever girls soccer team representing Xaviers and they really have made a great impression! The team now go forward to contest the Leinster title in Navan on Thursday 16th of May.

Well done girls, we are very proud!

Thank you to the parents who provided transport on the day and the FAI referees and organisers who made the day so enjoyable for the girls.
