Dunboyne Senior Primary School clinched the Section C FAI Meath 5 a side trophy on a glorious day at the MDL, Navan on Monday. Led by their brilliant captain, Roland Banya, they defeated St. Stephen’s Johnstown, St. Paul’s Ratoath and St. Seachnall’s to progress to the North Leinster section of the competition.
Roland was ably assisted up front by Tommy Lonergan with Dylan Vaughan and particularly Daniel Flanagan forming a strong defensive partnership in midfield and at the back. It meant ‘keeper Eoghan McCormack conceded just two goals in the three games as he swept up anything that came near him.
The five lads were also able to call upon Simon Cunningham to provide steel in the middle and Jack Brown and Davan Ryan for fresh legs in the second half of matches.
Dunboyne, managed by Brendan Keogh, had qualified for the finals stage by overcoming Kells in a hard fought quarter final last Friday which ended two-all after extra time. Banya led the way to a 6-2 extra time win on that occasion.
