YELLOW FURZE RETAIN MEATH TITLE IN STYLE!
Yellow Furze managed to retain their county title but only by the tightest of margins as they pipped their local rivals Skryne in a pulsating final. Watching Ireland U-16 manager, Sharon Boyle, was particularly impressed by the high standard of the two school teams. Over the years manager Liz Halpenny has previously guided her school teams success at county and provincial success . Gaelscoil Eanna proved to be determined and tough opposition but the Beauparc girls eventually secured victory with a 3-0 scoreline. Next came their neighbours Kentstown who put in a spirited performance but the Yellow Furze Girls sealed their second win by 7-0. The crucial decider against Skryne was a rip roaring affair between two very evenly matched sides., Impressive for Furze in goals was Robyn Murray while in front of her stood her twin sister Charlie, who was solid in defence and equally threatening going forward; dominating the midfield exchanges was captain Tara Traynor. Up front Nicola Mongey, Ella Sheridan, Sophie Sharp, Holly Knowles and Robyn Doyle were hard-working and clinical in their finishing.
Martin Kennedy’s Skryne girls were hoping to emulate the success of their boys but fate was to dictate otherwise. The Skryne girls got off to a dream start with a comprehensive win over Kentstown .The second game was a much closer affair with Skryne earning a hard fought 4-1 win over Gaelscoil Eanna.
