BOYERSTOWN GIRLS WIN FIRST EVER MEATH TITLE

Boyerstown NS girls won their first Meath schools soccer title and will seek to emulate the success of the boys who advanced all the way to the All-Ireland Finals in 2014. With captain, Amber Cosgrove, Alana Rogers and Orlaith Reilly very much to the fore, Boyerstown defeated Cortown NS by 5-3 in their first game. Rathmore NS were the next opponents and with Chloe Rogers, Katie McHugh and Caoimhe Keyes leading the way , the girls battled hard to achieve a 3-2 victory. In their final game Cathal O’ Bric’s charges faced a very skilful and well organised Kilbride NS team, With Alannah Rattigan notching the only goal of the game and Toyah Hennessey pulling off two top-class saves in goals, the Boyerstown team emerged as winners in a nail-biting thriller. For Amber, Alana and Orlaith, the victory was sweet to savour as their brothers Kyle, Adam and Daragh won the Meath Boys Section B, 5 a side competition three years ago.

Kilbride, managed by Karen Dunne, achieved their highest ever position as they finished Meath Runners-up as they came agonisingly close to winning the crucial decider. Kilbride had defeated Kiltale , Cortown , Baile Ghib. and Drumconrath in the qualifiers and were led by inspirational captain Ellen Birmingham and Emma McGrath, who plays her club football for Kilmore Celtic in Dublin. McGrath scored many crucial goals while Jane Cullen was industrious throughout. Others to shine throughout the tournament were Roisin O’Brien up front, keeper Emma-Kate Ball, Zoe Murray- Coudray, Leah Cahill and Nicole Molloy.
