Céad Míle Fáilte Romhaibh go léir!!

Welcome to Navan and congratulations to all of you  involved with the 23 teams here today. More than  6000 players in Leinster alone have taken part in this year's FAI Schools five-a-side! A tremendous achievement to have reached the 2005 Leinster Finals for all concerned.

Many thanks to for supporting our decision to postpone the finals as a mark of respect to all affected by last week's tragedy.Three of the deceased, Sinéad Ledwidge, Deirdre Scanlon and Aimee Mc Cabe, attended Liz Halpenny's Yellow Furze NS, three times winners of the Section A girls Leinster final ('98,'99 & '01 ) & All-Ireland Runners-Up ( '98 & '01). Sinéad is pictured after winning Leinster final here in Navan in 2001.We will have a minute's silence before our first games. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a n-anam.

We would  like to welcome our special guests today, Ireland's u-17 and u-19 manager, Sean McCaffrey along with some of the u-17 Ireland  team, just back from an away win in France! Also our Regional Development Officers (RDO's) from the FAI, whose work have proved invaluable to so many primary schools nationwide. We are lucky to have so many dedicated coaches from the FAI in Leinster. RDO's Paul Smyth, Tom Mohan, Ger Dunne, Pádraig Nicholson and Paul Sheridan have worked very hard with teachers, players and county organisers across Leinster, resulting in a huge increase in participating schools.

I would like to thank my predecessor Tom Bolger (now Chairman of FAI Schools) for his invaluable assistance , Liam Callan (Louth), FAI Schools Administrator Ray Scott and  Brendan Flynn (Sports Direct). Also Alison Norman of our sponsors Ribena Toothkind and Lucy Noble of  Edelman PR  for supporting our competition since the year 2000 -very much appreciated. Jackie Hennessy and Ger Keville for the fantastic coverage in The STAR each Tuesday . Dave Murphy (Meath Referees Branch) for referees and Michael Smith of "The Northern Standard" (Monaghan) for publishing this programme.

The teachers in all the participating schools have ensured that thousands of pupils have enjoyed the experience of playing soccer for their primary school. An interesting fact is that almost all of the current Irish senior players were never given that opportunity!

Gerry Gorman and staff at the MDL grounds  have worked hard to  provide a fabulous setting for this year's Leinster and All-Ireland Finals. It is a welcome relief for any organiser, to have six All-Weather pitches on standby, as required 3 years ago! Today's five section winners will progress to All-Ireland Finals on Tues.14th June, here at the MDL (12.00 - 4.30 ). They  will  receive a set of jerseys to be worn on that day .

I would finally like to thank my brother Patrick for assisting with graphics and my own class (Rang a Sé in Gaelscoil na Ríthe  Dunshaughlin) for working so hard on our website (www.faischoolsmeath.com   for schools in Meath and Leinster), this programme and for assisting me with the organising today.

Tom Mohan and Paul Smyth ( FAI) have very kindly donated 10 fantastic FAI Packs for a great competition. Packs contain full FAI playing gear, keyrings, pens, videos, DVDs etc. Just simply fill in your name and school on the form inside this programme ! Draw will be made today.
